La Rumba is A Lovesome Thing/A Tribute to Billy Strayhorn

“Saxophonist Paul Carlon’s Latin look at the compositions of Billy Strayhorn goes all the way on a cover of “Take the ‘A’ Train.” The arrangement includes five- horn chords, tres riffing from Benjamin Lapidus, Christelle Durandy’s strong vocals, a determined funk section and a focused, percussion-fueled trombone solo from Mike Fahie (★★★★).” --Brad Farberman, Downbeat Magazine

The Paul Carlon Trio features Master conguero and Grammy Nominee Wilson "Chembo" Corniel and young lion bassist Alex "Apolo" Ayala. The core of the album is the Trio's freewheeling improvisations, high octane grooves, and deep knowledge of Latin standards and traditions. The controlled abandon that bleeds through every track references traditional Cuban and Puerto Rican rhythms, the classic jazz tenor trio, and the best of New York's contemporary Latin jazz scene. Special guest tresero Benjamin Lapidus and vocalists Jorge Maldonado and Christelle Durandy are also featured.
